WASHINGTON (TND) — Actress Jamie Lee Curtis broke her silence Thursday and attempted to explain why she quickly and quietly deleted a social media post that left many on the internet confused.
On Thursday afternoon, Curtis took to Twitter to share a statement.
Last week I posted a picture of some chairs that included a photograph on the wall by an artist that was gifted to me 20 years ago," Curtis said. "I understand it has disturbed some people. As I have said, I am a truth teller so here's the truth. It's a picture of a child, taken by her mother, of her playing in their backyard in a tub of water. Nothing more, nothing less.
I took down the post because I didn't want to keep something up that upset anyone," Curtis added.
The statement comes days after the famous Hollywood actress posted a few pictures of her office on her Instagramaccount, allegedly attempting to show off chairs from one of her movies.
Instead of the chairs, however, it was a particular piece of artwork in her photo's background that created a buzz online.
Hanging on one of the walls of Curtis's office was a large photo of a child who is contorted and laying in what looks like a bin.
Why does Jamie Lee Curtis have a painting of a naked child stuffed in a box hanging on her wall?" one Twitter user asked. "She deleted this whole thing shortly after posting it."
Other posters located the art and shared a better view of the picture, which is apparently a top-down shot of a child sitting in a sort of makeshift pool created out of a plastic storage tub. Green sandals can be seen sitting outside of the tub.
The piece is the work of photographer Betsy Schneider, according to Lenscratch.com.
Regardless, many social media users were quick to question why that particular art piece was featured in the actress's office, with some calling it "sick" and "creepy."
The National Desk again reached out to Jamie Lee Curtis to give her an opportunity to provide additional comments, including what she thought was potentially upsetting about her original post.
Curtis has yet to respond, but this article will be updated if a response is received.
