EXCLUSIVE: Dash cam footage shows unusual end to police pursuit

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KGAN) - Marion Police started and ended a high-speed pursuit Thursday thatincluded assistance from the Iowa State Patrol and the Linn County Sheriff's Office along the way. It all started when police responded to a reported burglary. A suspect fled the scene and led police on a chase along Highway 151 through Marion.

CBS2/FOX 28 obtained exclusive footage of the chase. It shows the suspect driving in the wrong lanes at one of Marion's roundabouts before stopping at a gas station in Springville and putting a knife to his neck. The footage shows officers negotiating with the suspect, even offering to get him a Cherry Pepsi in order to bring a peaceful end to the tense situation.

After a few minutes, the suspect surrendered without incident. William Mattix,52, is now in custody and charged with burglary and eluding authorities.
