A video shows the shocking moment a shark jumped into a boat off the coast of Maine.

The captain of the boat says he's never seen anything like it.

The video was taken on a boat from "Sea Ventures Charters" out of St. George.

Captain David Sinclair told WGME he takes clients out to fish for sharks, which they then get to see up close and help tag.

They mostly encounter blue sharks, but on this day in August, they caught a 7-foot mako that jumped into their boat.

His grandson, who works as his first mate, was right in its path.

“All of a sudden here he is, right here in my face, and he hits me with his tail right on my left cheek and lands maybe three feet from my left foot,” First Mate Cameron Sinclair said.

“Everybody scrambled and I just held my breath and I thought injuries, high possibility,” David Sinclair said. “Not a scratch on anybody. The shark was not injured.”

David Sinclair said makos have sharp teeth and can be dangerous.

They were able to take some measurements of the shark and tag it before sweeping it out using the transom door.
