HENDERSON COUNTY, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) - A human skull was discovered inside a motorcycle helmet on Burlington Island in Illinois last week. The island is on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.
The skull was found by loggers in a full-face motorcycle helmet on Aug. 30 around 3 p.m.
The skull was sent to Peoria to be examined by a forensic pathologist, according to the Henderson County coroner.
The Peoria County morgue serves as a regional autopsy hub serving nine counties, according to the Peoria County coroner.
The Henderson County coroner says it may have a lead on the identity of the skull pending dental and DNA tests.
