RICHMOND, Va. (ABC7) — Virginia residents no longer have to worry about being taxed to watch their favorite Netflix shows.
The Virginia House of Delegates killedHouse Bill 1051 on Monday, which would have put a tax on streaming services likeNetflix and Hulu.
“The people of Virginia don’t need higher taxes, especially on things such as Netflix," said Caucus Chairman Tim Hugo in a statement. "This bill would have disproportionately affect millennials who enjoy these streaming services, as well as every family who enjoys a movie night together at home."
The "Netflix Tax" was introduced by Delegate Vivian Watts.
“This is what we are trying to define, so that we have an equal playing field in all of the ways in which this infrastructure allows you to communicate,”Watts said, according to WSET.
