Micro handbag small enough to fit through the eye of a needle sells for over $63K

WASHINGTON (TND) — A handbag measuringless than 0.03 inches wide recently sold for over $63,000 at auction.

The object was created by Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF and is inspired by a popular Louis Vuitton design–it's even emblazoned with the iconic brand's signature "LV" on the front. MSCHF says the "Microscopic Handbag" is narrow enough to fit through the eye of a needle and is only657 by 222 by 700 microns.

Thefluorescent yellow-green bag was made using a process calledtwo-photon polymerization, a manufacturing technology that's used to 3D-print tiny plastic parts.

According to CNN, it appears to be modeled after Louis Vuitton's OnTheGo tote, which sells for anywhere between $3,100 and $4,300.

The bag's sale was hosted by Joopiter, an online auction house founded by Pharrell Williams.

"Smaller than a grain of salt, MSCHF’s Microscopic Handbag is made via a stereolithographic process commonly used for making tiny mechanical biotech structures," the online listing says. "It is the final word in bag miniaturization. As a once-functional object like a handbag becomes smaller and smaller its object status becomes steadily more abstracted until it is purely a brand signifier."

The handbag was sold with a microscope that has a built-in digital display.
