Court records show a half-eaten container of ice cream led police in Maine to an alleged killer.

Police said Frederick Johnson killed 23-year-old Bethany Kelley last November in Portland's Bayside neighborhood.

Johnson and Kelley were both homeless.

Police said Johnson strangled Kelley behind a car along a street. Her body was found Nov. 18, 2022.

According to court documents, Johnson bought a container of cookies and cream ice cream earlier that night, and the partially eaten ice cream was found next to Kelley's body.
