ORANGE CITY, Fla. (CBS12) -- A high school student in central Florida is now facing animal cruelty charges after bragging about biting off the head of a live chicken, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation began this week when a school resource deputy at University High School heard talk of a student boasting about killing a chicken on Saturday night.

Deputies said 17-year-old David Andrew Jimenez came onto campus and broke into a chicken coop the school had as part of a "Farm to Table" event earlier in the day.

A teacher found the decapitated chicken in the school parking lot. Deputies found the head of the chicken inside the coop.

Investigators also found the school gym vandalized with eggs.

Deputies released Jimenez to his mom. He is facing charges of felony animal cruelty and trespassing.

There could be more charges as the investigation moves forward.
