East Bank, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — An East Bank family says they had an unusual interaction this weekend with a wild deer.
"We've had deer down before but they never actually got close," said Amy Dempsey of East Bank.
Dempsey says a deer came from the woods behind their home into their yard Saturday Morning.
"I noticed it was a good deer," said 4-year old Hayden Blagg.
Dempsey says her neighbors tossed it some doughnuts and before they knew it, the deer they named Oliver Rainbow was playing in their pool with the beach ball.
"He likes to play, he will come and nudge you with his head, but he has never been aggressive he justs likes to play," said Dempsey.
Dempsey's nephew was over her house during the encounter.
"We throwing him the ball right here, and he was knocking it back to Greg and me and mawmaw," said 8-year old Landon.
After about a 1.5 hours, Oliver left Dempsey's yard, but hours later he was back. The trusting, young buck didn't just play with the children but licked them and even took selfies with Dempsey's friends. She posted these videos to social media, and that's where she learned more about Oliver.
"Someone said he injured his leg and somebody has been feeding him till he got better, so maybe that is why he is used to people," said Dempsey.
Dempsey says during Oliver's second visit; he stayed for a sweet treat, a bowl of ice cream. Dempsey's neighbors say Oliver came back Sunday morning and they fed him some trail mix.
