GORHAM (WGME) – A dog's journey from Georgia to Maine is capturing the attention of thousands across the country.
Andrea Shaw of Gorham says she found love when she least expected it.
Last week, Shaw was visiting Columbus, Georgia on a business trip when a four-legged friend caught her eye, and captured her heart.
“I turned around and saw a cyclist coming into town, and this adorable little dog looked right at me, ran right up to me and into my arms,” Shaw said.
After a few slobbery kisses, Shaw noticed blood on her blouse. That's when the cyclist explained he'd found the dog hurt and abandoned.
The cyclist peddled the pooch on his back for eight miles into town.
Colombo, or Bo for short, made the trip to Maine from Georgia.
He's recently had surgery on his leg and is also suffering from a broken toe and tooth.
“He’s an easy puppy despite all of his injuries, he’s happy and sweet,” Shaw said.
Bo is now permanently living with the Shaws and his new animal siblings.
His journey from south to north has captured the imagination and interest of thousands across the country.
All because of the woman from Maine who gave him a second chance.
“It’s been amazing, I had absolutely no expectation of any of this. I thought I was saving this puppy and bringing him home and we get a new dog, yay, it’s amazing,” Shaw said. “I’m hoping to figure out a way for more good to come from this and a way we can help more dogs.”
