Bodhi the dog was stolen off a MAX train Monday when his owner briefly fell asleep, says the Gresham Police Department- but is back safe and sound after a community effort.

The GPD says Bodhi was dognapped while his owner dozed on the train, and the victim's phone was also stolen.

Community members and the owner began an effort to find the dog, including posting on social media and reaching out to the news. The GPD says that a suspect was identified through MAX surveillance footage by a civilian, who then reached out to police with the info.

Police named the suspect and asked for the public's help locating him.

As community pressure mounted, police say the suspect came forward by himself and turned over the dog.

Officers report that suspect provided "mitigating circumstances," and that Bodhi's owner requested the matter be resolved with a warning rather than criminal prosecution.
