CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Canandaigua teenager was arrested for robbing the Canandaigua Walmart last week, according to deputies.
Deputies said Philip Key, 16, went into the store around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and stole cold medication. After Key began consuming the medication, he proceeded to walk over to a checkout lane, reach over the conveyor belt, and demand the cashier give him money from the register.
According to deputies, Key then started forcefully taking the money from the register and tried to get the cashier to give him a pack of cigarettes.
Key then reportedly started to run out of the store and was confronted by a customer who tried to stop him. Key then tried to kick the customer in the face, ran into the parking lot, and tried to flee in his car.
Other people then ran after Key to stop him, which is when deputies say Key started throwing the stolen money from his car. Deputies then arrived on scene and took Key into custody.
Key was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated. Once released, he was arrested and charged with robbery.
Key was remanded to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
