LEXINGTON, S.C. (WACH) — Authorities have arrested and charged a man after they say he paddled away with $5,000 dollars worth of stolen goods.

Eric Nickels, 36, was charged with grand larceny on August 21.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said Nickels paddled his kayak up to a docked boat in South Carolina. He then loaded the stolen items from the docked boat into the second kayak he was towing, officials said.

The boat owner says Nickels stole speakers, amplifiers, a subwoofer and batteries.

While searching Nickels' home for the missing items, deputies said they found a trolling motor that was reported stolen in a different case; it was painted black to hide "any identifying markings."

Nickels was arrested on Monday night.
