SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) -- A beachgoer on Sunday afternoon found what they thought was a human hand while walking along Navarre Beach -- but deputies confirm it was not a body part.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, a witness discovered an item that resembled a human hand around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. They picked it up with a bag and took it to the Navarre Fire Department.

Sheriff's deputies quickly responded. The unknown item was taken to be examined.

According to deputies, the item was confirmed Monday morning not to be a hand or any other body part.

The Medical Examiner’s Office believes it is some type of sea life, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office told Channel 3 News.
