WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The newly opened Diet Starts Monday restaurant and bar on 14th Street felt the wrath of the internet Monday for a drink it called the Pill Cosby.

Many found the drink, named for the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby, highly offensive.

The Washingtonian first reported the cocktail with the controversial name, which has since been taken off the menu.

Co-founder of the Diet Starts Monday brand Davin Gentry initially told the Washingtonian the tequila-based drink is meant to "bring awareness to drugging in bars."

In a pair of deleted tweets, the restaurant said, "This drink was not made with any intent to offend anyone, especially not victims of rape. We take full responsibility," and "The drink has since been removed from the menu and we apologize to anyone who felt offended by this."

Many took to Diet Starts Monday's Facebook, Yelp and Twitter pages to voice their opinions on the drink.

Diet Starts Monday owners offered a longer apology Monday evening.

Jury selection began Monday inCosby's trialfor allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004. Cosby has also been accused of assaulting more than 50 other women.
