Court records: Man told police he shattered vending machine because he was thirsty

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) - A man has been charged after court records say he shattered a vending machine glass in a Thomas Memorial Hospital waiting room because he said he was thirsty.

Christopher Allen Webb, 23, of Chesapeake, Ohio, is charged with destruction of property, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Police responded to a disturbance about 8 p.m. Monday at the hospital. The officer learned a man was in the waiting room throwing items.

Security advised the officer that Webb had thrown a chair into a vending machine and broken it, the complaint said. Webb walked toward the officer, carrying a water bottle. The officer asked him if he had destroyed the vending machine and Webb said he needed water and security would not help him.

The front glass of the vending machine was shattered, the complaint said. The machine is valued at about $3,500.

Webb is being held in the South Central Regional Jail without bond.
