A couple who first met 60 years ago got engaged at an airport, a moment that went viral on social media.

“We were meant for each other,” Dr. Thomas McMeekin, a dermatologist in Tampa, Florida, told WFTS TV.

He and Nancy Gambell met in high school, where McMeekin said he had a crush on the “beautiful cheerleader.”

Another Tampa TV station, WTVT, said the two went on a few dates but went their own ways.

They married other people, lived their lives, worked careers and had families.

But they saw each other again 10 years ago, at their 50th high school reunion.

Still, their love connection didn’t reignite then.

"I had my wife, and she was with her husband," McMeekin told WTVT.

But several weeks ago, McMeekin RSVP’d to his 60th high school reunion. And he heard from Gambell.

And this time was different, even though Gambell lives on the opposite coast, in California.

They reconnected, and the love rekindled, WFTS reported.

“We were meant for each other, and so I said, 'I’m sending you tickets to come see me,'” McMeekin told WFTS.

And at the Tampa International Airport, McMeekin had a marriage proposal waiting for Gambell.

That moment was caught on video, shared on social media, and captured the hearts of romantics everywhere.

“Will you, Nancy, do me the honor of being my soulmate in life, my partner in every sense of the word, and my beloved wife forever?” he asked on bended knee.

She said yes. And there was much joy in the airport terminal.
