CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Taking their wedding day to new heights was exactly what a recently married couple did.

Ken and Tracy Nilsen tied the knot at roughly 35,000 feet up in the air during a Delta flight to Washington, D.C. from Cincinnati. The two are avid travelers and felt this was the perfect path to a perfect day.

“We wanted to do this because we love to travel and we’re particularly crazy about Delta. We were happy, everything got done just the way we had hoped,” said Ken.

Together the two have been to New Zealand, South Africa, Paris, and many other destinations both abroad and domestic. Ken said jokingly, but truthfully it all clicked on a previous flight.

"I remember one specific time, we had just finished up a meal on an overseas flight and she's like, 'I love airplane food,' and I'm like, 'You're the one,'” said Ken.

On the plane with the bride and groom were 15 close friends and family and 54 strangers. The aisles were decorated with flowers and the seat backs had barf bag programs. The ceremony took place in the middle of the hour-long flight.

"She pronounced us man and wife and said, 'By the power invested in me by the internet and the state of Delta, I now pronounce you man and wife,'” said Ken.

“Our pilots were so nice, they wrote down the coordinates where we were when it happened so we have that as a little keepsake,” added Tracy.

Once they landed in D.C. there was a reception for them at the Sky Club and then they all flew back.

“They had a golf cart with a 'Just Married' sign and Coke cans on the back with earbud strings,” said Tracy.

The couple got engaged in Paris in the fall and plan to return as part of their honeymoon trip.
