JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KRCG) — Love is in the air in one Missouri retirement facility.
The wedding of Lola Perrey and Jerry Scarlett took place over the weekend atPrimrose Retirement Community in Jefferson City. KRCG was told the two met during the first month of Lola's coming to Primrose, but it wasn't love at first sight right away.
I just happened to notice him and I said hi to him and he kind of just ignored me at first," Lola said.
But as time went on, both Lola and Jerry got to know each other better and met at a happy hour event put on by Primrose.
"I thought she was a nice gal," Jerry said.
What started as friendly conversations turned into something deeper.
Even though they live on opposite ends of the building, the two always seemed to find their way toward one another.
"(Lola) is a nice person to anybody and it just grew on me until I told her I loved her," Jerry said.
After Jerry proposed to Lola, they went to Brandon McIntire, the executive director at Primrose, to book the facility's chapel for the wedding.
McIntire said the occasion called for something larger than that. With permission from the couple, he and the rest of the Primrose employees spared no effort in making Lola and Jerry's special day that much more meaningful.
Watching the two of them grow as a couple and watching them blossom together has been very fulfilling, not just as a leader, but as a nurse, and as a human," McIntire said.
With family and other members of the retirement community in attendance, the two made their love official at their wedding on Saturday.
"I didn't know I would be here with another wedding," Lola said. "I feel young and rejuvenated, so that's what we're going to do, commit to one another."
