CELINA, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – Five employees at a Waffle House in Wapakoneta were stunned on Christmas when members of a local church brought them a huge tip.

“So, we collected offering tonight,” the Rev. Mick Whistler said in a video posted to Grand Lake United Methodist Church’s Facebook page, “and we want to give you a big tip for what you’re doing here. We raised $3,577.”

Members of the congregation had poured into the restaurant after the 11 p.m. Christmas Eve service at their church, where Whistler had told them they were going to give the employees the “biggest tip I’m sure they have ever received in their life.”

“We’re going to show them God’s love through extravagant generosity,” he said, “because that’s what God did for us.”

When he goes to hand the package of money over to the five employees, all of them look overwhelmed, and one said, “Are you kidding us?”

FOX 45 has reached out to the church and to Waffle House to get more information about this Christmas surprise.
