LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - The Lexington Public Library says it has received a book that has been past due for 50 years.

The library tweeted a photo of the book, "The United States in World War I; the story of General John J. Pershing and the American Expeditionary Forces," written by Don Lawson. A note on the book was signed "Dale H." and apologized for the book being 50 years past due.

The book was delivered from Georgia to the Tates Creek Branch.

The Lexington Public Library currently has a 15-cent daily late fee, which is capped at $6.75. If late fees remained the same for 50 years without a cap, the person would owe the library more than $2,700.

The library said, "It's never too late to return an overdue book."
