The announcement was posted by Dr. Karen Becker, a veterinarian who met Bobi several times.
"Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings," she said on Facebook. "Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him."
He achieved the title of the world's oldest dog living and oldest dog ever on February 2, 2023.
Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog, was registered in 1992with the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria who confirmed his birth date.
His owner, Leonel Costa, said the“calm, peaceful” environment Bobi lived in was a big reason for his record-breaking age.
Costa said Bobi's diet also contributed to his longevity.
"What we ate, they ate too," he said.
Rest in peace, Bobi.
