'Be kind and compassionate to everyone': Cincinnati woman celebrates 103rd birthday

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A Cincinnati woman celebrated her 103rd birthday on Tuesday.

Ardeth "Ardie" Herbert was born in Milford. She graduated from Withrow High School and immediately entered the workforce.

Ardie married Lee Herbert, whom she met while working at Cincinnati Milling Machine Company when she was 21. They had two children -- Charles lives in the area and Donna resides in Florida. Ardie said the happiest time of her life was while married and giving birth to her children.

Ardie retired fromCincinnati Milling Machine Company at 62 and moved to Florida with Lee. There she volunteered at a hospital.

Now she resides in a nursing facility in Loveland and enjoys the fun activities there, including working on crafts and writing out birthday cards for friends, staff and other residents.

Her life advice? "Be kind and compassionate to everyone." She lives those words because the staff at her facility say she is always thinking of others and putting them first, making her a favorite there.
