CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Fiona, the famous hippopotamus that has captured the world's attention since 2017, has a new baby brother and the zoo has finally announced his name.
Meet Fritz!
That name option was one of the two finalists for the baby boy born August 3. Fritz got 56% of the more than 220,000 votes, according to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, beating out Ferguson.
“We would have been happy with either name, but we really think the name Fritz fits this spunky little guy’s personality,” said Cincinnati Zoo’s head hippo keeper Wendy Rice.
We also thought it was funny that it was suggested because ‘Fritz’ is here due to Bibi’s birth control being ‘on the fritz’.”
The zoo said it got 90,000 suggestions for names from every U.S. state and more than 60 countries.
Zookeepers hinted they wanted something to sound good with big sister, Fiona.
Fritz remains inside for now with his mom, Bibi. The zoo said it won't be long before they'll start habitat and hippo introductions.
