7-year-old W.Va. boy is Elvis impersonator

WAYNE, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) - Later this month will mark 40 years since Elvis Presley died. The King of Rock and Roll's memory is kept alive by Elvis impersonators around the world, including a 7-year-old Wayne County boy.

Trent Dillon's Elvis shows are not just for his family. Over the weekend, he entered the open-mic contest at the Wayne County Fair. His dad said it all started two years ago when Trent was watching a "Lilo and Stitch" video.

"At the end of it, he sang 'Aloha "Oe' and he just loved it, and I said, 'Do you want to see who actually sang that song?' I looked it up on YouTube and let him watch it and he fell in love with Elvis from then," said James Dillon, Trent's dad.

The boy said he has plenty of reasons to love Elvis.

"His singing is really good, and I also really like his outfits," Trent said.

His favorite Elvis song is "Blue Suede Shoes." He performed it this past school year at his home school association talent show.

"It's about really slick shoes, and it's really catchy," Trent said.

Trent's father said he believes it will be a learning experience for his son.

"I want him to get out of it confidence that if he wants to go after something, that he can go after it," he said.

James said Trent's Elvis interest may have helped him overcome some sensory issues as a toddler, adding his interest in Elvis is showing no signs of going away anytime soon.

Trent doesn't have any formal paying gigs just yet. His parents said Trent was asked to be part of the Fall Festival in Wayne next month, and he has also been asked to perform at some area nursing homes.
