National Caffeine Awareness Month is in March, according to nationaldaycalendar.com.

The month is geared to learning benefits of caffeine, but making sure we don't over do it.

The stimulant can provide that extra surge of energy needed throughout the day, but just like most things a tolerance can be built up.

That means more and more caffeine is needed to provide that same jolt.

While taken in moderation, caffeine is a good thing, but there are some bad side effects when not moderated.

Caffeine can cause sleepless nights, increased stomach acid, and increased blood pressure.

It is a good idea to keep track of how much caffeine you intake including when it comes to foods.

Popular sources of caffeine include:

  • Pop/soda
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Chocolate/Cocoa
  • Energy drinks

How to take place in this month-long observation:

  • Track intake of caffeine
  • Learn about all of the different foods and beverages that have caffeine in them
  • Try limiting intake
  • Use #CaffeineAwarenessMonth on social media to share how you celebrated

The month was founded by Caffeine Awareness Alliance in 2003, said the website.

Related observances include:

  • Caffeine Addiction Recovery Month - October
  • National Carbonated Beverages with Caffeine Day - November 19
