As Donald Trump puts together his cabinet, his pro-Israel selections are getting bipartisan praise.

Over the weekend Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn., tweeted support for GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik as the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. writing, “I look forward to voting for @repstefanik to continue a strong and unapologetic pro-Israel position.”

Fetterman posted on X in response to a new United Nations report that alleges Israel’s conduct in Gaza is "consistent with characteristics of genocide." Fetterman also accused the U.N. of “pervasive antisemitism.”

Not everyone is happy with Stefanik's selection.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement saying they don't believe Stefanik is a good fit “given her hostility toward free speech and human rights". The CAIR statement goes on to add, "We will at least be spared the pretenses and hypocrisies of President Biden’s United Nations team, which used the international body to champion the human rights of Ukrainians while trampling on the human rights of Palestinians.”

Trump’s pick for Secretary of State, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has also proved a solid supporter of Israel. Rubio repeatedly defends Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas and Hezbollah.

Rabbi Uri Pilichowski, who lives in Israel but is in Washington D.C. this week for the National Conference of Synagogue Youth, said he believes Rubio and Stefanik will strengthen U.S.-Israel relations.

"They’re great people, they’ve been friends of Israel for years," said Pilichowski. "Our two countries, we share values. We share goals. We share enemies, unfortunately. There should be no reason why there should be any daylight between our two nations."

Unlike some of Trump’s other cabinet picks, Stefanik and Rubio are expected to have relatively smooth confirmation processes.
