WASHINGTON (TNND) — President-elect Donald Trump has chosen a former television talk show host and prominent physician to fill a role on his cabinet.
Trump has selected Dr. Mehmet Oz to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He called Oz an "eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator," noting he would work closely with Roberty F. Kennedy Jr.
RFK Jr. was selected to serve as Trump's' secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, to "Make America Healthy Again."
"I have known Dr. Oz for many years, and I am confident he will fight to ensure everyone in America receives the best possible Healthcare, so our Country can be Great and Healthy Again!" Trump shared in a statement.
Oz hosted a long-running talk show "The Dr. Oz Show" from 2009 to 2022 when its last episode aired. He unsuccessfully ran as a Republican for a Pennsylvania Senate seat in 2022.
Dr. Oz will be a leader in incentivizing Disease Prevention, so we get the best results in the World for every dollar we spend on Healthcare in our Great Country,” Trump said. “He will also cut waste and fraud within our Country’s most expensive Government Agency, which is a third of our Nation’s Healthcare spend, and a quarter of our entire National Budget.”
Oz has been an outspoken supporter of Trump. He graduated from Harvard College and earned a joint MD and MBA degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Wharton Business School, before becoming a Professor of Surgery at Columbia University.
According to the Trump campaign, he has received numerous patents on medical inventions and authored 400+ original publications and multiple bestselling books.
