The battle cry on the border remains a central tenant of Donald Trump's 2024 campaign.

During a recent rally in Atlanta, he said, “On day one, we will seal the border, stop the invasion, and send the illegal aliens back home and we'll do it very quickly.”

Vice President Kamala Harris is also now addressing the issue head-on.

In Las Vegas Saturday, she said, “We know our immigration system is broken and we know what it takes to fix it."

However, critics want her record to speak for itself since she was assigned to deal with the root causes of migration.

In March of 2021, shortly after taking office, President Joe Biden said, "I’ve asked her, the V.P. because she’s the most qualified person to do it. To lead our efforts with Mexico and the northern triangle."

But from those countries alone, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, migrant encounters at the Southern border have reached nearly five million under the Biden-Harris Administration, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Now, there's a new plan by House Republicans to investigate the cost.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday night,House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., spoke about the issue.

This has had a huge impact on Medicaid because many people when they cross the border, they get free healthcare. It costs money on the public school systems for these kids to be stuck in public schools that are already behind when they already get here. So we want to know the cost and we want to know exactly what Kamala Harris did."

Last week, his committee sent a letter to the head of CBP requesting “all documents and communications between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Executive Office of the Vice President related to the southwest border or illegal immigration.”

Democrats accuse Republicans on the House Oversight Committee of once again using their time and resources to investigate Donald Trump’s chief rival, now Harris.

For years, they focused their efforts on the man who was supposed to be his 2024 opponent, President Biden, and what role he may have had, if any, in his son Hunter’s business dealings.

During a hearing related to the impeachment inquiry in Sept. 2023, Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.Mex., was one of many lawmakers to accuse her GOP colleagues of doing the bidding of the former President.

“We see the long arm, but little hands, of Mr. Donald Trump whose fingerprints are all over this hearing and this sham impeachment," she said.
