To ring in the New Year, Land Rover announced the stateside return of one of its most distinct and well-known brands around the world: the Defender.
Though scant details have been released, Land Rover confirms it will hit the U.S. market starting in 2020.
The Land Rover Defender has developed a cult-like following for its rugged capability and originated shortly after World War II as the Series Land Rover vehicles.
Similar to the Jeep Wrangler, the design of this vehicle is boxy and upright, and it hasn’t changed much since its inception more than 70 years ago.
The next-gen Defender has already started to undergo rigorous testing around the globe, being exposed to extreme temperatures, high elevations and off-road drives.
The interior and exterior design will be all new, and it will include all the latest driver-assistance and connectivity features.
Land Rover states “all will be revealed” in 2019 with no specific date referenced.
In the meantime, the automaker has released a series of camouflaged shots of the Defender in off-road and city locations.
