Jaguar, Land Rover, and Range Rover cars and SUVs will add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility in 2019 models and some older models, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Dealers should be able to add the software functionality soon, the spokesman told The Car Connection.

Jaguar Land Rover, which is jointly owned by Tata Motors, was the last holdout for smartphone compatibility among major automakers.

According to the automaker, all 2019 models will be compatible with the popular smartphone systems. Older models that are equipped with InControl Touch Pro or Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems, factory installed navigation, and InControl App Suite, will be upgradeable to offer the smartphone software.

The compatibility will cost $280, which is similar to other charges levied by luxury automakers including Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Other automakers such as Toyota and Nissan offer the compatibility built in to the cost of the car.

The rollout has already started in the U.K., but customers in the U.S. should expect compatibility soon.

In addition to the smartphone compatibility software, JLR is upgrading its infotainment system with new menus and buttons for 2019, and will upgrade its voice recognition software in the cars.
