The Jaguar F-Pace is two years into its life cycle for the 2019 model year, so it’s not quite ready for a refresh. However, that doesn’t mean the folks at Jaguar will rest on their laurels.
For 2019, F-Pace adds a top-tier performance-oriented trim created by the SVO team at Jaguar Land Rover – and it’s a doozy.
Here are five things you need to know about the new Jaguar F-Pace SVR trim.
SVR vs. SVO
In its simplest terms, SVR is the “special” trim, and SVO is the “special” entity within Jaguar Land Rover that produces the high-performances vehicles.
170 more horsepower than the V-6
The F-Pace SVR gets a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. This is a 44 percent power increase over the next most-powerful engine, the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that delivers 380 horsepower.
The 0-to-60-mph time is 4.1 seconds, a full second faster than the V-6 model.
Priced around $80K
As a top tier “special” trim, the price tag is also special. The starting price for the F-Pace SVR will be $80,985, including destination. That’s $18K more than the S trim with the V-6.
For further comparison, it’s $35K more than the base 25t trim with the turbocharged 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine that delivers 247 horsepower.
Trim distinction
At first glance, the SVR might look like a regular F-Pace. But when you look a little closer, you’ll notice a few differences.
Some distinguishing design changes include the SVR badging on the front and rear of the vehicle, functional hood vents that help extract hot air from the engine bay and the slim-line sport performance seats.
In terms of performance, the F-Pace SVR also adds an aerodynamic package with unique front and rear bumpers, an SVR-tuned chassis with upgraded shocks and stiffer springs, 15.5-inch front and 15.6-inch rear disc brakes, slim-line performance seats and a SportShift gear selector.
Nickname: Magnificent Beast
During the technical presentation, Ross Restell, lead engineer for vehicle dynamics on the Special Vehicle Operations team, discussed the “massive” engine in the SVR, but he also said even though there was a huge power increase, the driving comfort doesn’t suffer.
In fact, he said the team calls the F-Pace SVR “the Magnificent Beast” internally because it hits the sweet spot between comfort and performance.
The Bottom Line:
Because F-Pace is the best-selling vehicle for Jaguar, it makes sense that the automaker would want to give it the “special” treatment, and it is, in fact, the first “Pace” model to get the SVR trim. We hope that means it won’t be the last.
The F-Pace SVR is a blast to drive, but it manages to be quite comfortable as well – easily an every day driver that will put a massive smile on your face to match the massive engine.
