The 2019 I-Pace is one of the most forward-looking, forward-thinking vehicles Jaguar has ever created.
So it makes sense that it’s chockfull of cool technology. Here are five of our favorite features.
Connected Car
For those who’ve jumped on board with a connected house, a connected car is the next natural step. With Alexa integration, you can find out if your car is locked or what your charging level is without having to pick up your phone.
Conversely, with the HomeLink Connect app inside the car, you can connect to your house from the driver’s seat, accessing things such as the thermostat and lighting before you get home.
6 Standard USB Ports
USB ports seem to have become this generation’s cup holders. They’re a must-have in today’s vehicles, and though some automakers think one is sufficient, I’ve long argued there should be one port for every seat in the vehicle.
Someone at Jaguar seems to agree as the I-Pace comes standard with 6 USB ports –one for every seat plus a bonus port.
If you opt for the rear-seat iPad entertainment kit, that adds an additional 2 USB ports specifically to keep those iPads charged – separate from any other smart devices passengers may be holding.
Touch Pro Duo
Many automakers have tried the two-screen approach to infotainment. Most have failed.
Jaguar Land Rover, however, is the first automaker I’ve seen that makes it work. The Touch Pro Duo made its debut in the Land Rover Velar, and I fell in love with the four-color graphics and sleek styling.
The “Flight Deck,” as JLR likes to call it, makes its Jaguar debut in the I-Pace and it’s just as pretty – and just as functional – as in the Velar. There is a clear delineation of use for each screen, and the two dials change functions depending on screen usage.
Bluetooth Key Fob
If you are in a two-driver household, you know the frustration of getting into the driver’s seat after someone else has driven the vehicle – the seat, the mirrors and even the radio are all wrong.
The Bluetooth key fob changes that, as the vehicle will recognize a specific fob as it approaches. Then the vehicle will change the seat, climate controls and, yes, even the audio presets based on the preferences set within the vehicle while using that fob.
Predictive Navigation
Anyone who has even considered buying an electric car is familiar with the concept of range anxiety, which is why the navigation system in the I-Pace makes so much sense.
In addition to telling you what your range is at the start of your trip, it tells you what it will be when you arrive at your destination, which eliminates some conjecture on whether you’ll be able to make it.
To do this accurately, the system takes into consideration topography, traffic and weather as well as driving style, media usage and climate control. If it thinks you’re cutting it a bit close, it’ll also show you charging stations along the way.
Want to get the most out of your range, there’s also an info screen embedded in the infotainment system that will tell you what is sucking the most power from the battery. If it’s something expendable like heated seats or audio, you can easily turn it off or down.
The Bottom Line
With a range of 240 miles and the ability to charge up to 80 percent of the battery in 40 minutes, the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace is getting us closer to a high-tech, all-electric future.
While I loved all the cool features Jaguar is introducing with this all-new vehicle – and believe me, there’s a lot more than what’s listed in this article – I really enjoyed the I-Pace for what it was: a fast and functional SUV for the family.
