2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring: Lincoln adds its plug-in hybrid to Corsair lineup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Lincoln Motor Co. has been on the move during the last couple of years, launching an entire lineup of all-new products and transforming the brand.

At the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, the transformation continues with the addition of another plug-in hybrid: The Corsair Grand Touring.

This vehicle will come equipped with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor that will deliver a combined output of 266 horsepower. This is a step up from the base 2.0-liter engine in the gasoline model that delivers 250 horsepower.

As a plug-in hybrid, the target all-electric range will be 25 miles.

The Corsair Grand Touring will have Level 1 and Level 2 charging capability, hitting a 100 percent charge in 10-11 hours for Level 1 or 3-4 hours for Level 2.

The Preserve EV mode will also let you charge while driving, recharging up to 75 percent while driving in this mode.

This vehicle will also be the first in the Lincoln lineup to get electric all-wheel drive, which will include an additional electric motor integrated into the rear axle to help provide improved performance and capability. This electric motor will work with the hybrid drivetrain powering the front wheels.

As you would expect, the Corsair Grand Touring will come equipped with all the cool technology we saw on the gasoline model, including phone as key, wireless charging, head-up display, Co-Pilot360 and – my favorite – 24-way perfect position seats.

How will you tell the regular model from the Grand Touring? The blue on the badging at the vehicle’s front and side.

Pricing hasn’t been announced but if the Aviator setup is anything to go by, the Grand Touring model could cost up to $18K more than the base Standard trim ($36,940), which would price it around $55K.

The Corsair Grand Touring will hit dealers in the summer of 2020 as a 2021 model.

The bottom line:

This new compact plug-in hybrid from Lincoln has a lot to offer, including segment-first technology and a usable amount of all-electric range.

We loved the gasoline Corsair for its elegant styling and attention to detail, so we’ll look forward to seeing a quieter iteration of the “Quiet Flight” design vision.
