We heard the whomp, whomp, whomp of the helicopter rotors before we could see them. Then, we glimpsed first the blades, then the body as it rose over the Chevrolet sign on the other side of the track.

The helicopter went straight up, and we could see a tow rope attached to it. Slowly as it rose higher, what was at the end of the tow rope came into view: The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

Media and consumers were in Texas to celebrate 100 years of Chevy Trucks, and Alan Batey, president of GM North America and global brand chief for Chevrolet, ushered in the next 100 years with the reveal of the all-new Silverado.

The reveal was more of a sneak peek, as the formal debut of the 2019 Silverado is scheduled for the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Very few details were released, and media weren’t allowed a closer look at the truck that was dropped in from the sky.

What we do know is that the truck we saw was called the LT Trail Boss model, which will have all the off-road equipment of the Z71 package with a 2-inch suspension lift from the factory.

Additionally, Batey revealed there will be a stronger steel alloy used for the bed floor, which will contribute to a cargo box that is lighter and more functional.

The 2019 Silverado will also have more models, more engine/transmission combos and more features than the previous-gen truck.

But beyond that, we’ll have to wait for the big debut on Jan. 13.
