The very first car review I wrote was on the 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom. It literally launched my career as an auto writer, so when I learned that 2016 would be the last of the seventh generation model, I was a bit sad and definitely nostalgic.
I still remember that warm feeling of being enveloped as soon as I sat in the driver’s seat, kind of like being wrapped in a cocoon of cashmere and plush leather. The silence was overwhelming, and the ride comfort was unlike anything I’ve experienced in the ensuing years of writing new car reviews.
But 2018 launches the next generation of Phantom, which promises all the lush luxury I remember with all the amenities of the 21st Century. It will offer features such as surround view cameras, night vision, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and a WiFi hotspot. Even the outdated navigation system gets an overhaul.
The 2018 Phantom will come equipped with a 6.75-liter V-12 engine that delivers a smooth 563 horsepower.
Phantom sits at the top of the Rolls-Royce lineup, with a base price of $417,825.
While we don’t have any drive impressions to offer at this time, we do have some photos. So, sit back, think luxurious thoughts and dream big.
