Even when you’re an A-List celebrity, it’s hard to find love.

Charlize Theron recently spoke to Andy Cohen about being on Raya, but she’s not the only one. Ben Affleck was famously on the dating app too before he married, and then divorced, Jennifer Lopez.

They aren’t the only one’s though. Stars like Drew Barrymore, Keke Palmer and Camilla Cabello have all admitted to using Raya or other dating apps and have shared their relatable dating stories. Read below to hear their stories about being blocked, stood up, and why some deleted their profile after less than a day!

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore tried her had at swiping, but admits that she didn’t have much luck on Raya. She didn’t match with many men on the app but when she decided to go on a date, she was stood up, “I did terribly too. I got stood up. I didn’t match with anyone. And my friend gave me this sort of bloated sense of false confidence. They were like ‘You should try it. You will do great.’ It was a car wreck,” she said on Watch What Happens Live in 2020.

She continued, “But, you know, I love being able to be in the conversation, I have to say. Like, I definitely had fun with it. And I’ve always wanted to go on a blind date, but my life got in the way of that, so I thought, like, online dating might satiate that desire. And no, it was a real wake-up call. But it was fun, and yes, there were lots of exciting people.”

In 2023, Drew shared that she finally met someone through the app and ended up dating him on-and-off for a bit.

Simone Biles

Now a married lady, Simone Biles met her husband Jonathan Owens on the celebrity dating app! She explains how she was fresh off a breakup and her friend was persistent about getting the Olympian on Raya, “I had just broken up [with someone] and my friend was like, ‘Get on Raya, get on Raya.’ My guard went straight up when she said on dating the site,” she tells Vanity Fair. After swiping the first week, she matched with Jonathan, “The second week I met him in person and the rest is history. We were hooked.”

Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer shared she spent a few months on Raya, but didn’t thoroughly enjoy it as she thought she would. She says online dating felt more like networking than making a connection, “I’ve always had the same philosophy when it comes to dating. Not that I wouldn’t give someone a try. But trying to keep my private life outside of my work life, to me, it’s easiest when you don’t date someone with the same career,” she tells Harper's Bazaar.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone shares a hysterical story about the time she tried to set up a Bumble account when she was looking for potential suitors. She posted in a tweet, “I went on the @bumble dating sight and they closed my account. Some users reported that it couldn’t possibly be me! Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary? Don’t shut me out of the hive.”

Bumble quickly took action and responded to her viral tweet, “There can only be one [Queen] Stone. Looks like our users thought you were too good to be true. We’ve made sure that you won’t be blocked again. We hope that everyone in our community rakes a sec to verify their profiles. (Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct gets a pass today!)”

Camilla Cabello

The former Fifth Harmony member revealed she was on a dating app for less than 24 hours before deleting her profile.

“I was on a dating app for like 24 hours then I left. Because the first guy that DM’ed me was like an aspiring singer-songwriter from Nashville and I was just like, I feel weird because somebody could be using me. Does that make sense? [] You don’t know their intentions. But even that, I’m like I don’t even know, when you are just trying to make friends, you’re going to meet guys that are vetted by your friends, which is amazing,” she tells Drew Barrymore on her talk show.

Zac Efron

It seems like it would never be difficult for someone who looks like Zac Efron to get a date or be swiped on, but when the ‘High School Musical’ star signed up for Tinder, he admits it was a total failure. “Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me! They thought [my profile] was fake,” he told The Times.
