WASHINGTON (Circa) -- The ways you watch television continue to change every day and yet another transformation is on the horizon.

The Information and Variety are reporting NBCUniversal plans to launch a new app that will give prizes to users. The app, which will reportedly be known as Watch Back, will include clips from television shows on channels owned by NBC as well as shows from YouTube stars and social media influencers.

Watch Back will be free to use and will give viewers points every time they watch something on the app. The more points a viewer earns, the more rewards and gift certificates they become eligible for.

Another company, iPowow, is launching their own blockchain-powered token known as HIT Protocol that would also reward viewers in exchange for their viewership, Blockchain Beach reports.

HIT Protocol would give viewers the ability to accrue tokens in order to convince them to watch a television show. Broadcasting and Cable reports viewers will be able to buy merchandise from a digital shopping plaza using their tokens but they would have to agree to share data about themselves in order to redeem the tokens.

There is no specific launch date for HIT Protocol but NBC's Watch Back app is reportedly expected to launch this fall.
