XXXTentacion shot and killed in South Florida

WASHINGTON (Circa) -- XXXTentacion was shot on Monday and pronounced dead.

The rapper was reportedly shot while shopping for motorcycles in South Florida. TMZ says a gunman ran towards the rapper's vehicle and shot him.Emergency dispatch audio from the scene has been released with a dispatcher saying a victim in a black BMW was shot (you can hear the audio here).

Broward County Sheriff's Dept. pronounced the rapper dead late Monday afternoon. In a tweet, the department said "the adult male that was taken to the hospital has been pronounced dead."

"He has his mouth open and his hand out. Two people went over and checked his pulse," said Stephanie Martinez, a 29-year-old mother told The Associated Press. "It's just weird because he should've had security and stuff with him."

The rapper was about to face a trial after being accused of domestic violence by his pregnant girlfriend, TMZ reports.

His music videos have garnered millions of hits on YouTube - specifically a single titled "SAD!" which has over 173 million views. The same single also had more the 270 million streams on Spotify and was in the Top 50 charts this past week. He was also named as one of the rap industry's most influential "Freshman" rappers, according to XXL Magazine. The rapper was even featured on the publication's cover.

His album titled "?" debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart in March. His musical influences were Notorious B.I.G., Tupac and Nirvana.

Most recently, he was in the headlines after Spotify decided to remove his music from their promoted playlists. The company began a new policy which would remove "hateful music and conduct." They were responding to domestic violence accusations made against XXX.

TMZ says that the incident is possibly a drive by shooting and that the artist was described as comatose by dispatchers.Witnesses also tell TMZ that a Louis Vuitton bag was taken from the rapper's car.

Miami New Times reports the rapper was planning a charity event this weekend which would be held in Miami.

XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, was 20 years old.
