Will Smith reunites the cast of 'The Fresh Prince' on new Snapchat show

WASHINGTON (SBG) – On the series finale of his hit snapchat show, Will From Home, Will Smith reunited with the cast of the iconic show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

"The Fresh Prince" was a hit sitcom about a boy from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that that ran on NBC from 1990-1996.

Reuniting for the show with Smith were cast members Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton Banks), DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jazz), Tatyana Ali (Ashley Banks), Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Vivian) and Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey).

During the show, the cast held a tribute to the late James Avery, who played Phillip Banks, Will's uncle, in the show. Avery passed away in 2014 due to complications from open heart surgery at 68.

While the full show aired on Snapchat. two clips from the reunion on YouTube, including a segment in which Will revealed that it was actually Alfonso Ribeiro's idea to name his character in the show after himself.

“It was such a deep insight that you had,” the Fresh Prince said. Riberio had once told him, "Look, if you're ever going to do this show, you've got to be Will Smith.'”

Smith also asked the cast how they dealt with people knowing them only as their Fresh Prince characters from the show.

Any of you have a problem feeling stuck in the world expecting you to be your character?" he asked his guests. DJ Jazzy Jeff said the only times he got really annoyed were when fans tried to draw him into doing the infamous handshake his and Smith's characters shared on the show.

“You would see in peoples’ eyes when they were about to sneak the handshake, and I would just grab their hand and hold it!” he laughed.

Since launching the show in the beginning of April, Smith has seen a bevy of celebrity guests that stopped including Dr. Anthony Fauci, Kevin James, Guy Fieri, Johnny Knoxville, Tyra Banks and Smith’s son Jaden. The idea behind the show is to spend time with friends and family and keep spirits high as the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic.
