Halle Berry has been with her boyfriend, Van Hunt, for five years and even though he proposed to her recently, she hasn’t said yes right away.
The couple appeared together on “Today with Jenna & Friends," where Hunt said he knows fans want him to propose.
"So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see," he said as Berry chuckled. "It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her."
As for why she didn’t immediately say yes, Berry explained, “Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don't.”
Berry has been married to MLB player David Justice, singer and actor Eric Benet, and actor Olivier Martinez. She shares a son, Maceo, with Martinez, and has one older daughter, Nahla, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
"But I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married," Berry said during the interview. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression."
The Oscar-winner and the musician first met during the lockdown through Hunt’s brother, who worked for Berry’s company, Respin, and started texting as friends before they ever met in person.
She admitted she was hesitant about being “set up” on a date, and Hunt said he could barely believe his brother was offering him a date with the movie star. “Who asks you if you want a date with Halle Berry? It doesn’t sound like a real question” he joked.
But Berry is clearly very happy with Hunt, a man who came into the interview with flowers for her.
“When you find your person, you find your person, and I’ve now found my person, finally,” she said.
