Weekend box office - June 22-24, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) - “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” surpassed expectations by bringing home $150 million. The film, which opened in international markets two weeks ago, has a worldwide total of $711 million. Reviews haven’t been favorable, but audiences have awarded the film an A-, according to CinemaScore.

Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” fell 56 percent and will finish the weekend with a total around $80 million. Clearly, “Fallen Kingdom” had a greater impact than was expected. Still, the domestic total is $350 million and the worldwide take is a healthy $485 million.

Ocean’s 8,” the delightful heist film featuring a phenomenal female cast that includes the likes Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway, dropped just 39 percent in its third weekend for a total of $11.65 million. That pushes its domestic take over $100 million and the worldwide total to $137 million. Will we be fortunate enough to see a sequel? I do hope so.

Tag” clawed its way to an additional $8.2 million, a drop of 45 percent from its opening weekend. The film’s $30 million domestic total covers the film’s production budget.

Over the weekend, “Deadpool 2” scrounged up $5.25 million, raising its domestic earnings to $304 million. Factor in the overseas numbers and the super sequel has a worldwide total just over $700 million.

With $4 million, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” cleared the $200 million domestic hurdle and jumped over $350 million worldwide.

A24’s horror yarn “Hereditary,” one of the best films of 2018, continues to quietly amass an impressive total as this weekend’s $3.8 million pushes the film’s domestic total to $35 million.

My favorite film of the week, the Fred Rogers documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” expanded into 348 theaters and added $1.8 million and has now earned $4 million in limited release.
