WATCH: New trailers for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' 'Alien' sequels

WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — While the American people digested President Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday night, two of the summer’s most anticipated sequels dropped their latest trailers.

Hitting theaters May 5, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” brings back Marvel’s team of cosmic misfits for more action, explosions, and insults. In addition to a returning cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, the new film introduces Pom Klementieff as the telepath Mantis and Kurt Russell as Ego, the father of Pratt’s Starlord.

The trailer, set to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” debuted on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday. Like the original, Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn.

Also making its way online Tuesday was the trailer for “Alien: Covenant,” which apparently takes place sometime between 2012’s “Prometheus” and 1979’s “Alien.” Ridley Scott, who directed both of those films, is behind the camera again for “Covenant,” which stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and others.

The film follows the crew of a colonization ship traveling toward a remote planet. According to the description provided by 20th Century Fox, they discover “what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world.”

As the trailer reveals, that dark, dangerous world is home to monsters of many shapes and sizes, including at least one of the iconic xenomorphs that have eviscerated crews of many missions to remote corners of the galaxy in the other films of the series.

“Alien: Covenant” is set for release on May 19.
