'The Waltons' house in Virginia sells for $249,000

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) - A trio of fans bought the Nelson County home that was the inspiration for the show "The Waltons."

The realtor, Gayle Harvey Real Estate, Inc., says the house sold Wednesday for $249,000.

The new owners, Carole Johnson of Ukiah, California, Ray Castro of New Jersey, and Kirstin DeMaio of Michigan, plan to open it up for tours.

The Waltons Hamner House opens Friday and tickets will be available at the Walton Mountain Museum across the street.

Johnson says the house will feature some familiar sights, including a 1929 Ford, just like the one shown on the show.

The new owners are also in the process of planning a big celebration in October for the 25th anniversary of the museum across the street. Richard Thomas, better known as John-Boy Walton, will be there for that event.

The house is located at 128 Tree Top Loop, Schuyler, Virginia 22969.
