Suspect in Comedy House attack incident arrested

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has announced the arrest of a man connected to the Comedy House attack incident.

Marvin Toatley is charged with three counts of assault and battery, one count of third-degree assault and battery and one count of malicious injury to property.

In the viral video, Toatley can be seen throwing a mic stand and stool at comedian Steve Brown during his performance on Sunday.

According to the incident report, during his performance comedian Steve Brown said he noticed the suspect "staring into space" so he asked him if he was okay.

Toatley reportedly told the comedian "don't f--- with me man" before he broke free from his family members who were holding him back and rushed onto the stage throwing several punches, a microphone stand and stool at Brown.

In the video, a part of the microphone stand can beseen flying into the audience as Toatley attempted to hit Brown. The report states that Brown and two others were injured as the bottom piece of the microphone stand struck them.

All three victim refused EMS, however, Brown eventually went to the Lexington Medical Center where hereceived treatment for a gash he received on his arm.

Following the incident, Brown took to Instagram to tell his followers that he was "good" but pointed out the comedy club needs to be called out for their "lack of security" at their clubs.

According to the incident report, a security guard was present at the club and followed the suspect after the incident. However, security could not be seen in the video and patrons attempted to help break up the fight.
