PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WPEC) — Resident celebrity Vanilla Ice is fixing up a special needs teacher’s home in Port St. Lucie.
"They don't pay teachers a lot of money to fix up houses and houses are kind of pricey you know when they've gone to waste like this one," said the rapper.
Lana Watson teaches at Mariposa Elementary School. Her house has had an issue with rot and mold for almost ten years.
"I had really been concerned because the damage was so bad," said Watson.
She knew Vanilla Ice, aka Robert Van Winkle, through her school and asked if he could recommend a contractor. Instead, he decided to fix the house for her for free.
"I was speechless. I had an ugly cry face. I was like,'Oh my God.' Just blown away. Because when does stuff like this happen," said Watson.
"It's nice to help out with someone who helps out. And I tell you, Miss Watson does a lot for the children. Special needs for 18 years," said Van Winkle.
The side of the house are getting replaced and painted. The house will take about a week to complete.
