Timothy Busfield surrenders to police, says allegations are 'all lies' in new video
UPDATE: Actor Timothy Busfield has turned himself in to authorities.
TMZ first reported the news that Busfield surrendered to New Mexico law enforcement after an arrest warrant was issued last week.
The outlet also obtained a video from the actor denying all allegations.
"Hi everybody, it's Tim," the video began. "I'm sure most of you know, that are watching this, that I was ordered to come to Albuquerque – I'm here now. I got the call Friday night, I had to get a lawyer. Saturday I got in the car, drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque. I'm gonna confront these lies. They're horrible."
He continued, "They're all lies and I did not do anything to those little boys and I'm gonna fight it. I'm gonna fight it with a great team, and I'm gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies."
The 68-year-old concluded, "So hang in there and hopefully I'm out real soon and back to work. I love everybody for supporting me, thank you."
It was reported earlier that U.S. Marshals were joining the search for the former "West Wing" star.
The actor and director was wanted in New Mexico on two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.
The warrant was issued on January 9, but authorities had been unable to locate Busfield.
The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) confirmed the U.S. Marshals involvement in the case to People Magazine. When asked if Busfield had been located, detained, or arrested as of Tuesday, an ADP spokesperson told the outlet, “Not that I am aware.”
According to the APD, Busfield allegedly touched 11-year-old twin boys inappropriately while directing Fox’s “The Cleaning Lady” in 2024, per the New York Post. Busfield, an Emmy-winning actor and director, worked on the series for four seasons until it ended in 2025 and allegedly “grew closer to the boys” during that time.
One of the children reported that the first incident occurred when he was seven years old and said Busfield touched him at least three times. Another incident allegedly occurred when the child was eight, during which Busfield reportedly touched him up to six times, according to The Guardian. The complaint filed by the child’s mother to New Mexico’s child protective services claims the abuse occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024.
Busfield’s wife, “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert appears to have deleted her personal social media in the wake of the headlines. Her business account, Modern Prairie, remains active, with the latest post appearing on January 10.
