Tyra Banks admits 'America’s Next Top Model' went 'too far' in docuseries trailer
“America’s Next Top Model” fans are going to get an inside look at the Tyra Banks-led reality series, the good and the bad.
Netflix just released the trailer for “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model,” a docuseries that looks at “the chaos in front and behind the camera.”
The official synopsis reads, “What started as a glamorous launchpad for aspiring models became a pop-culture juggernaut defined by explosive drama, public meltdowns, and controversies that still fuel viral moments today.”
The three-part docuseries features interviews from all the shows key players, including Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, Miss J. Alexander, and Banks herself, as well as multiple contestants from the show.
In the trailer for the series, after playing one of the show’s most infamous clips of Banks screaming “We were all rooting for you” at a contestant, the former model says, “I haven’t said much, but now it’s time.”
Banks says she wanted to “fight against” the fashion industry, but the show faced a lot of controversy over body shaming, medical procedures as part of the makeovers, sexual harassment, and questionable photo shoots involving putting models in make up to appear as other races.
“I knew I went too far,” Banks admits at one point in the trailer.
As cycle 6 winner Danielle Evans said, “It’s a TV show to you guys, but this is my life.”
One of the show’s mainstays, photo director Jay Manuel, added, “I realized Tyra would do anything for the success of her show.”
Banks puts some of the blame on the audience, saying, “It was very intense, but you guys were demanding it. And so we kept pushing more, and more, and more.”
“Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model” premieres February 16 on Netflix.
