Travis Kelce speaks out on Taylor Swift’s spicy ode to his masculinity in 'Wood'
Fans were blushing when they listened to “Wood” on Taylor Swift’s latest album thanks to some not so subtle metaphors to Travis Kelce’smanhood.
And now the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is speaking out about the song.
On his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis said, “It’s a great song.”
Jason asked "Do you feel, do you feel — not confident — do you feel cocky about the song 'Wood'?"
Travis replied, “No,” adding, “Any song that she references me in is very”
But Jason stopped him, noting, "That's not just any song. This is a very specific you.”
Travis kept trying to play it coy, saying, "I love that girl, so what do you mean? Any song that she would reference me in that way..." but naturally his big brother pushed and asked about some of the songs similes.
"Travis, come on," he said. "Redwood tree ain't hard to see... I thought redwood, that's a little bit, that's a generous word, I think. I think if somebody wrote a song about me, it'd be like, 'Japanese maple sometimes can see.' "
Travis wouldn’t crack though, and Jason continued on complimenting the song, saying, "That song's great though. The freaking beat to that song is fantastic and that's right up my alley, so well done. I think it's a great song. I think inserting wood innuendos is always childish enough for me that I can get on board with that.”
Taylor has also addressed the song with an air of “who me? Never!” when it comes to the sexy wordplay.
During her “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” movie event, Taylor explained the inspiration behind “Wood” was “superstitions” and nothing more, which earned a big laugh from the audience.
The lyric video that played also had some cleaned up lines to make everything PG (like “d—kmatized” changed to the cleaner “hypnotized").
And while she’s singing about Travis on the new album, Taylor did reveal she’s keeping some moments “private” from his proposal.
"I gotta figure out like ways to make sure that I do have things that are just between us, and thankfully, we do have a lot of those things,” Taylor said on “On Air with Ryan Seacrest.”
She added that what he said when he asked her to be his wife, "That moment in particular is one that's always just going to be ours."
The couple announced their engagement on August 26, and the “Life of a Showgirl” singer said she was ok sharing the happy news with the world.
"We're both very public-facing people, and both of our career paths involve entertaining people. So we're very kind of relaxed about things,” she said.
