Move over, Superman, there’s a new Kryptonian in town, and she’s ready to party.

The first teaser trailer for “Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock, begins with Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, hungover in bed while her dog, Krypto, takes a wee on a newspaper with Superman on the cover.

Kara is very down in the dumps, celebrating her birthday alone at a bar, saying, “Twenty-three will be the best year yet,” adding, “Let’s be honest, babe. It’s not a very high bar to clear.”

We get a hint as to what’s troubling her when a young girl asks what it was like to lose everything in a day, referring to the destruction of Supergirl and Superman’s home planet, Krypton.

“Krypton didn’t die in a day. The gods are not that kind,” Kara says.

Supergirl is definitely more cynical than her cousin, telling her young companion, “He sees the good in everyone. And I see the truth.”

The trailer, set to Blondie’s “Call Me,” is action packed and get glimpses of new characters, including the briefest look at Jason Momoa as Lobo.

At private Manhattan viewing party for the debut of the trailer, the film’s director Craig Gillespie said, per Variety, “This is really an anti-hero story. She’s got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different from where Superman is in his life.”

Producer James Gunn, who directed this year’s “Superman” starring David Corenswet, also said, “So many times female superheroes are so perfect. She’s not that at all. She’s very imperfect, like male superheroes have been allowed to be for a while.”

“Supergirl” is in theaters June 26, 2026.
